On the book stamp insert near the front of each book, there are now some boxes for you to rate the book out of 5.

This is helpful knowing which books are popular to stock and for you to see what others thought of it.

We were delighted to receive these two lovely mugs as a gorgeous & thoughtful gift!

The library's first anniversary was on 21-03-2022 and almost 2,000 books have been shared in its first year. We are very thankful to all those who share their books and love of reading with the community.

"There are those who make the world worse, those who make the world better" is a quote taken from "Away with the Penguins" by Hazel Prior which was the first Book Club book.

The catalogue page has had an overhaul so there is a new web page.

Apologies if you tried to reserve a book and the link didn't work. It's all up and running again.

Reserving a book from stock is easy. Just fill in the form on the Reserve A Book page so we know which book you would like and when you will collect it. We'll wrap it and put your first name on and pop it into the library for you on your chosen collection day.

The Marsh Harrier is the new name for The Shrimper on Fylde Road. Following a £170,000 refurbishment, it is due to re-open on 2 April 2022.

Our Book Club is currently held in the home of a member and has been kept small due to Covid. We will be moving to The Marsh Harrier once it opens and have a limited number of spaces for new members.

If you are interested in joining please get in touch.

Back up & running

There was only a little superficial damage to the children's library which is easily fixed when it stops raining.

We think the books on the top shelf of the adults' library were shaken forwards in the wind. They put enough weight on the door to open it and fall out. The books on the bottom shelf were fine, they didn't even get wet. One of the books - ironically called "Look For Me" - made it as far as Slaidburn Crescent giving an idea of just how windy Storm Franklin was.

Here it is, all topped up again ...

Stormy Weather - library closed for maintenance

Stormy Weather by Carl Hiaasen might be one of my favourite book club books so far but Storm Franklin certainly isn't my favourite storm!

We woke this morning to the library door open and books in the garden. So please bear with us - it's too windy to do anything at the moment. When the wind calms down we'll check it out and see what needs doing.

A geocache is our latest addition. It's a Mystery cache where you have to solve a small jigsaw puzzle to get the co-ordinates. (It's a Premium cache).

If you don't know about Geocaching, we have a book about it - currently in the library. Geocaching is a fun treasure-hunting game, suitable for all ages. that takes you on fun adventures. Southport has lots of hidden geocaches so it's a great place to start your adventure.

NB The geocache is NOT inside either of the libraries.

Yesterday evening, members of Book Club & guests enjoyed a Zoom meeting with Suzanne Snow, Author.

Suzanne talked about the process of writing, publishing and marketing her books and described how she comes up with ideas, plots, characters and locations.

We enjoyed a lively Question and Answer session and Suzanne talked about her latest projects.

A huge "thank you" to Suzanne for a very enjoyable and informative evening, and thanks to everyone who came online and supported it.
