Members take it in turns to choose 3 books and then we vote anonymously for the one we'd like to read. The book with the most votes is the one we read.
It was my turn this month so I decided to pick three very different books. One of the things we like most about book club is reading books we wouldn't normally choose. I would usually read the 3rd option but not the first two. The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods was the book with the most votes that was chosen to read. The story follows three main characters, Opaline, Martha & Henry - strangers whose stories come together in an unusual way. It blends historical and contemporary settings with a touch of magic and a love of books. While I would never have chosen to read it I absolutely loved it! In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I read it, re-read parts and I also listened to it on Audible while I was on holiday. There were one or two loopholes in the story but they just left me curious. Book Club scored it 4/5 and it's currently rated 4.5/5 on Amazon. "The thing about books,' she said, 'is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of"

Animal Adventures is a series of packs containing an instruction sheet, soft animal toy and a sketchbook. Children can borrow a pack from the library to take the animal home, read it a story and then write in the sketchbook the name of the book they read and draw a picture of their adventure. They can also find out what books other children have read and look at their drawings. When they have finished, simply drop the pack back into the Book Drop Box and look out for another animal. |
